Ace of Hearts seventies pintail surfboard lamination

This week we are laminating a post modern seventies single. The shape is revised to my liking in that it has a parallel profile, which  gives an aerodynamic bullet like nose, and a beaky buoyant tail so that it has displacement qualities if pushed. There is the hard rail in the tail though, so it will let the water sheet off in a planing situation, The other advantage of the parallel profile is the low slung, thin centre of the board which gives a lowered riding position. This gives a surfboard a spoony feel. There is also a subtle full concave, which in my opinion is the only kind of functional bottom concave as there are no 'bumps' preceding it.
This shape was one of my favorites back in 1994, when I made them in Balsa at only 1 1/2" thick.

The spackle job created a smooth egg shell layer

A last minute check before this weeks lamination job
Two layers of 10 oz will give this board the 'old' style weight

Fluoro green tint (hard to photograph) which looks like those glow in the dark toys we used to get in the seventies...

Half way through time for a quick pic while the next batch of resin is mixed for the laps

All done on the first deck lamination

The tail is a buoyant pin, slightly beaky

We like senenties singles

A board like this will retail at $905 US (1175 NZ), without fins, this particular one is sold already, the customer bought it when it was just shaped, any way I can still show you the progress pictures. Let me know if you want one similar, I can do any colour you like.
