  1. Roy,
This project is amazing! I've been following it nearly from the start I think. It's very exciting to see it nearing completion.

I'm intrigued by your description of the project as " Blending physics and hydrodynamics with conscious Tarot symbolism."

Would you care to elaborate on the symbolism?

  3. Hi Matthew,

I've always used tarot symbolism and numerology with my surfboard design. It serves as means of classifying boards according to foil proportion ( hearts, diamonds etc have their particular range of foil proportion for example a 40% aft planshape is heart series board ) as well as providing inspiration.

This particular board is a 19 foot heart series, and correseponds with card number 19 The Sun. By classifying it thus we put the meaning of the card into the board via our thoughts and feelings, it just creates a positive atmosphere around the board and I'm sure that this helps make the process more and the result more enjoyable.

  4. That's very interesting Roy, thanks for sharing that.

I know exactly what you mean by putting thoughts and feelings into the board and creating a positive atmosphere around the project. I do believe our frame of mind and the quality of energy we put into our work has a profound effect on our workmanship and is strongly reflected in the finished product.

Similarly my sons feel that the music we listen to during the build process affects the personality of the finished board. They have even gone as far as to leave the music on over night while the epoxy sets so that the music "cures into the board".

I often keep the shop quiet myself just to enjoy the sound of the tools on the wood but the idea is the same. It creates a peacful and positive energy. If I'm stressed or not enjoying the process for some reason I'd rather leave it for another time rather than sully the project.

  5. Hello Roy,

Thank you (and Matthew) for sharing the conversation about putting meaning into the board. I think this will help me to produce a deeper design philosophy of my own for my own work (fashion design).

I will try to follow the project where I have time.

    Sincerely,

    Gary Goldstein
